Project Manager - Infrastructure

Job Description

Under general supervision, oversees various infrastructure projects of a highly complex nature. Responsible for assembling project team, assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources needed, and developing schedules to ensure timely completion of projects. Must be familiar with system scope and project objectives, as well as the role and function of each team member, to effectively coordinate the activities of the team. Evaluate and prioritize projects based on business value. Projects will primarily cover the following areas: Security, Datacenter, Server, Storage, Network, and Unified Communications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plans, schedules and tracks projects, with related cost estimation and scope control responsibilities.
  • Creates project plan or tasks when needed. Identifies and communicates risks and issues that may require changes to plans or scope.
  • Continually identifies, prioritizes and mitigates project risks.
  • Conducts research, evaluates different technology and vendor solutions, balanced against total cost of ownership, and recommends the best solution.
  • Is available for off hours support, as needed.
  • Holds technology vendors accountable for defined deliverables or service levels.
  • Follows IT Development process and meets deliverables for each project phase.
  • Responsible for reaching successful project outcomes while keeping the project on time and on budget.
  • Provides oversight and control of any external resources contracted to the project.
  • Develops and executes user training plans where necessary.
  • Develops test cases in support of designed solution (based on business requirements) considering multi-sourced solutions where necessary.
  • Compiles information and creates, maintains, and distributes statistical and business reports to management and supervisors as required.
  • Builds and manages stakeholder (internal and external) relationships. Relationships with stakeholders include: business partners, users, vendors, customers, project team members and management leaders.

Skills and Abilities
  • Along with business/system analysts, can identify project requirements to the necessary level for planning and scheduling purposes
  • Can quantify business benefit of a technology solution in financial terms and perform basic Cost/Benefit analysis.
  • Can estimate the project's effort from functional requirements, working with technical domain experts
  • Can prioritize trade-offs between on-time, on-scope or on-budget delivery
  • Skilled at project scheduling, including via automated tools, and can analyze progress and trade-offs
  • Can implement project change process, as appropriate for scope control and change processes
  • Can debate effectively for or against project changes, as appropriate
  • Supports Project Portfolio Management process implementation
  • Sufficient communication and organization skills to implement a formal communications plan
  • Capable of project risk assessment, monitoring and mitigation planning
  • Team leadership skills sufficient to facilitate conflict and issue resolution
